This slim volume is hardly a book at all, but no matter, it is perhaps one of the most eloquent odes to New York City one could ever read, written by White in a sweltering hotel room in the summer of 1948. That fact alone is testament to how much one man could love the city, and in this book, he narrates a series of observations about what makes it so unique. The New York Times called it one of the top ten books ever written about New York.
